Rice Paper Butterfly

When I was looking for some idea to put in the interns blog, and I found something interesting in butterfly farm. I am so scared of worm but this is so cute!

How cute the caterpillar with colorful body!

Black and white banded. Large red spots to the sides of the body, at front and rear. It have paired spikes near to the head, neck, shoulders and rear.

During the Pupation process, the pupa will become bright yellow with black speckling on the body. The pupa is still easily damaged on the 1st week.

The translucent pupa is still young to evolution into butterfly, it needs around 4 weeks time to become imago stage.

Dead pupa cause by parasites. During the 1st week of Pupation, the shell of the pupa is still weak and frail. The Parasitoid wasp will lay eggs in the pupa and it will absorb all the nutrition.

During the 3 weeks, the colour of pupa will change to more metallic yellow. The shell is more hard and strong in this stage.
