Today I visited the Lanyang Branch Station, Hualien District Agricultural Research and Extension Station Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan. I tagged along with Ah Ma (founder) and another TLF intern to attend an extension talk given by a farmer on organic farming.
The talk was conducted in Hokkien and a bit of Mandarin. I had to guess my way through out the whole talk but I manage to catch bits and pieces of what the farmer explaining.
Overall, the talk was about utilizing the natural power of the soil to its full capacity and avoid the use of fertilizers and pesticides.
After the talk, we had our lunch break and later the talk proceed with another speaker who shared his journey to Ohito farm in Japan. This farm promotes organic farming by not using any synthetic fertilizers and pesticides in their agriculture.
