Living tractor of the East

The water buffaloes are one the highlights when visiting Toucheng Leisure Farm. These gentle creatures are always happy to see people because they probably think the visitors brought a snack or 2 with them. During the cooler season, these buffaloes will be out in the open and during the warmer season, they might be cooling down in the shed or if your lucky you may see them taking a deep in the pond.

Water buffaloes are useful when it comes to planting paddy when technologies are not that advance yet. Water buffaloes is an asset for the paddy farmers and they are often referred to as “the living tractor of the East”. The buffalo is able to plough deeper into mud compare oxen or horses. They are the most efficient and economic means of cultivation of small fields. Almost every rice-producing countries, buffaloes are used for threshing and for transporting the sheaves during the rice harvest.

Buffaloes dung could be used as a subtitle for cement and can be plastered on wall or made into walls. Their dung could also be used as fertilizer or fuel when dried.
