First Kilning Experience

Today I got to experience first hand how to make a kiln (natural oven made out of mud rocks). The process is called kilning and visitors at the farm can experience it in one of they activities.

All you need is to pile the rock on top one another until you made a dome shape. Trust me, it much easier saying than done. I had a tough time building one with the rocks kept falling. Once you got the oven done, make a fire inside the dome. The dome will be feed with wood fire until the rocks turn red and that the time to place the sweet potatoes inside.

Once the sweet potatoes are inside, tumble the hot rocks onto the sweet potatoes and cover them up with newspaper and sand. Leave the pile for a hour. Finally, you can enjoy your hard work labor when the sweet potatoes are cooked.
